London Spring Lunches

Our 2019 Spring Lunch will be held at The Oval on Friday 29th March. This will be a huge event with many awards being presented and our guest speaker will be none other than Devon Malcolm - forever remembered as the destroyer of South Africa in 1994 where he duly made those guys "history".

In addition our President Jonny Barclay will be present alongside international umpire John Holder who will receive the Ian Jackson Award - our spirit of cricket prize - and many other cricketing names.

We look forward to seeing as many members and guests at the Oval on the 29th as possible! See also Latest News

Our 2018 Spring lunch was a fine occasion held, as has become traditional, at the Oval. Our guests enjoyed a reception on the roof terrace on a bright, if cool, day and then went downstairs for a superb three course lunch. Our guest speakers were MCC President Lord MacLaurin and Jonathan Agnew of Test Match Special fame who entertained guests with tales of his cricketing and commentating exploits.

We were also pleased to have present Charlotte Edwards the winner of the Ian Jackson award. See photos below.

For many years we have been planning to have a London lunch event instead of the usual spring dinner. This we did on 31st March 2017 and the lunch was held at The Oval. It was an enormous success with almost 250 guests - double the number we would have expected at our spring dinner.

We were privileged to have our President Jonny Barclay in attendance along with Vice-presidents Derek Underwood, Sir Tim Rice and Chris Lowe. Our guest speakers were Henry Blofeld and President of MCC Matthew Fleming.

The day started with a reception held on the roof terrace where members could look out over the historic Oval ground. After a fine lunch the usual awards were presented and a raffle and auction held. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly Matthew Fleming presenting to Henry the Ian Jackson Award for services to cricket. Henry then entertained the assembled guests to some amusing reminiscences from his life in cricket.

A report on the 2018 lunch will appear here shortly. In the meantime you can see photographs from the event on our Twitter Feed
